Speaking at 2013 Aging in America Conference!

How exciting to be accepted to speak at the American Society on Aging’s 2013 Aging in America Conference in Chicago, IL. The last time I presented there was in 1997. This time, I’ll be presenting a 60-minute workshop alongside Sheila McMackin of Wellspring Personal Care, titled The Warp and the Woof: The Unique Weaving of Privately Paid Services.

I am honored to have been chosen out of what I am certain was a premium list of aging care specialists and industry professionals to speak at this amazing conference. This annual conference (taken from their website) brings together relevant content, innovations and best practices and develops thought leadership on the most critical issues in the field of aging. Technology, Inbound Marketing, and Home Care! Oh My!

The National Association for Home Care & Hospice’s Annual Meeting & Exposition is coming up later this month, and this year’s focus will be on riding the high-tech tide into the future of home care! It’s no secret that the world and the home care industry are embracing newer and better technologies every day. Telehealth devices that can do everything from reporting health issues or falls to tracking a client’s movements throughout the home are being incorporated into the industry, giving agencies a technological edge, and making life better for clients and their families. But how can an agency take advantage of the technologies that their clients, referral sources, and potential clients use every day to increase business and profitability?

On October 22nd, I’ll be presenting at the NAHC Annual Conference on how home care agencies can increase their visibility online via inbound marketing. In this session, attendees will learn:

  • The overall process of inbound marketing as an integrated component of a successful marketing strategy;
  • The importance of effective online inbound marketing strategies to agency growth;
  • And the best methods for implementing online communication efforts into the current agency marketing and sales culture.

If you ain’t mobile, you ain’t, so it seems

Are you reading this on a smart phone or a tablet? According to a recent article in Louisville’s Business First by 2014, the most common method of accessing the Internet will be through a mobile device. And according to the venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, some observers believe this has already occurred.

Traveling today to Arizona to keynote a conference about trends in the home care industry. There certainly are many trends from licensure, to accreditation, to local, statewide and national policy changes and increased competition, but a really overarching trend is mobile usage. From making websites mobile enabled so they are user friendly on smart phones and tablets to thinking up apps that apply to home care.

Arizona Non-Medical Home Care Association Keynote on Trends with a Focus on Technology in Home Care

Working with many agencies and vendors to the home care industry, and having spent years working in home care myself, I’ve seen the changes the industry has gone through and am very aware of the technological brink we are currently poised to breech. With more and more seniors becoming active online, and the children of those seniors doing a large amount of their shopping, researching, and info gathering on the Internet, agencies are beginning to take notice and embrace technology in home care.

Today’s successful in-home care agency needs to be aware of possibilities for the future, to stay ahead of the competition, solve problems before they present and think of new ways to go to market. With the advent of cloud-based computing, affordable tablets and smart phones, the applications of technology to non-medical home care are increasing daily. As the keynote speaker at AZNHA’s 2012 Symposium this month, I’ll be talking about trends in the industry. Following that keynote, I will address a special session on why integrating technology into home care isn’t the future, it’s the present!
